Termites are social insects, live in a highly organized colony consist of different casts that perform distinctly different duties. There are 4 casts King & Queen, reproductive, Soldiers, and Workers, termites communicate in the form of chemical message (trophallaxis) among them.

  2. Reproductive: dark color have wings as adult called swarmer fly from home nest and form new colony.

The susceptibility of termites in buildings have become a crucial part to control due to its invisibility, it accounts 10 times more damages than fire in a year throughout the world, as a result some developed municipalities’ have taken step to imposed control treatment as a law in early phase of building construction to minimize the risks of termite damages.

Foundation stage treatment

A horizontal chemical barrier should be established at early foundation stage to avoid termite infestation in future, this process apply as termiticde showering into foundation surface & walls of pits because  termite worker can gain access into building from foundation pillars, treated soil around pillars act as barrier as termite touches they got killed and followers termite turn move from access into building structure.

This technique will be used as spot treatment and only be applied area where the termite movement is seen in the middle of the walls. pest9In most of the cases, termites travel in between the colony and the building through electricity wiring. To check the movement, an oil-based solution is poured in all sockets and followed with the filling or clogging of the holes with cotton swab dipped in concentrated termiticide.

The dusting technique is applied under the carpets along the walls, in cracks & crevices. The dust clings to the surfaces and wooden surfaces that remains affective there until it is physically removed from the surface and if removed there should be reapplication.

The dusting termite control process is used in both pre-construction & post-construction termite control treatments as same as liquid barrier but in dusting is powder based termiticide use to prevent from termite infestation.

Dust apply into foundation pits, plinth, and peripheral wall by preparing the solution through powder dust mix in water and shower into foundation trenches.

  • Examine time to time any mud tubes, swarmers, moisture stains close to bathroom & kitchen, or damaged wood.
  • Prevent building from associated moisture issues and ensure that water drains away from the building.

  • Remove unnecessary wood to soil contacts which may include wood piles, wood siding, support beams, and any other structural timbers in building.

At the level of earth back filling after compaction, the active ingredient absorb into soil at above level of surface or foundation pits to become a part of soil and water further absorb into deep soil.

In post construction dust application process is little difficult, initially find out termite colony base and then apply dust into the associated area of colony that easily spread out dust in colony and queen.

The advance and latest technique is termite control baiting devices using non detectable and slow poison chemicals blend with cellulous that attract termite and spread out into the whole colony, as a result complete termite colony is eliminated.

Termite control baiting devices are generally installed both above and under the ground, after installation it is required monitoring the termite activity may have taken place, monitoring must be carried out for 6 to 12 months in the termite baiting systems as contract basis and renewed for extended period at additional cost.

There are many limitations to install this system because continuous monitoring and this is not essential that all termites may come to baiting devices so that’s why this system couldn’t have gain market success.


Termite control baiting devices are not available in Pakistan, recently Sumitomo the Japanese company launched but still unavailable in market.

The world’s well known baiting systems including Sentricon, Exterra, Nemsis and many more are available in global market.
